Virtual Adult Introductory Mental Health First Aid Course

For people working in Surrey on COVID-19 response

A FREE half day course, delivered over two sessions in a virtual classroom, to become certified by the MHFA as Mental Health Aware

This course is aimed at people working in the COVID-19 call centres, frontline volunteers and people who have been redeployed to COVID-19 who have no previous experience of mental health training.

Our introductory course on mental health in adults is a programme designed to raise awareness of mental health.

It has been developed to give you:

· An understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma

· A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues

· An introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing

· Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue

Mental health conditions:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Psychosis

  • Eating disorders

  • Suicide

  • Self-harm

How will I learn

The course is delivered online, via the Microsoft Teams platform, in two x 2-hour sessions. The sessions are split into Part A and Part B. Please book Date for part A and Part B that you would like to attend. Please note, you must have completed Part A before you attend part B. You will need internet access, and video/audio connection.

We limit numbers to a maximum of 20 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe, supported and fully engaged in the virtual environment while they learn.

Learning takes place through a mix of online presentations, videos, case studies and group discussions.

When you have successfully completed the course, you will get a hard copy of the MHFA manual/workbook (delivered to your home address) to keep and refer to whenever you need it.

You will also get an e-certificate from the MHFA to certify that you are “Adult MHFA Aware”.
